Oxfam endorse Outback Spirit Foundation’s campaign to support indigenous growers of native plant bush foods
Oxfam support the many communities and enterprises who produce bush foods like Outback Spirits. This gives the communities a practical way to become more self-sufficient by cultivating commercial crops. Aboriginal people are able to use their traditional knowledge about bush foods which contributes to keeping their culture strong.
Oxfam Shop have been working with Outback Spirit for 12 years with their first order placed in November 2004. They currently sell chutneys, sauces, dressings, marinades and dried rubs containing native plant bush foods.
It is part of Oxfam Australia’s strategic plan to work with and promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. Oxfam customers have the experience of buying Australian bush foods in Oxfam stores, and stocking these products promotes the cultural significance of Australian bush foods in Australia.
Oxfam Shop Australia have stated that “ We look forward to the development of more products containing bush tomatoes and wish the Outback Spirit Foundation well with their crowd funding campaign to expand the production of bush tomatoes and provide more Aboriginal families a long term sustainable income solution.”
Thank you Oxfam Shop Australia and to all the people who support these initiatives to empower Aboriginal communities to become more self-sufficient
